She is the daughter of Syed Akbar Hussain Rizvi and Florence Rizvi. Sonya’s father was a Pakistani, and her mother was French. Sonya is the granddaughter of the legendary female singer of Pakistan Noor Jehan, and her grandfather was a popular filmmaker of Pakistan, Syed Shaukat Hussain Rizvi. The real name of Sonya is Sonya Rizvi, but she changed her name in the respect of her grandmother. Her brother Sikander Rizvi and her cousin Ahmed Ali Butt are also famous actors of Pakistan.

Sonya got married to an Indian banker Vivek Narain, and now she is residing in Mumbai, Karachi with husband and they both have two children, a daughter Noor and a son Rizwan.
